As part of Volunteers’ Week, students from On Track Wisbech have been developing their skills and confidence through a rewarding volunteering placement at Tesco Wisbech.
Throughout the experience, students had the opportunity to take on a variety of roles within the store, including serving customers on the tills and helping to replenish stock on the shelves. These hands-on tasks allowed them to gain valuable workplace skills while experiencing the responsibilities of a busy retail environment.
The placement also provided an opportunity to learn about sustainability and environmental responsibility. Students were involved in sorting waste and using the correct recycling systems, helping them to understand the importance of sustainable practices in the workplace.
By working as part of a team and interacting with customers and staff, students developed greater independence, communication skills and confidence, while gaining a real insight into the world of work.
Claire Simper, SMSC Lead at On Track Wisbech, said: "Our students have thoroughly enjoyed their volunteering experience at Tesco. From serving customers on the tills to refilling shelves, they have gained valuable workplace skills and confidence. They have also learned about the importance of sustainability by sorting waste correctly and using the appropriate recycling bins. It has been fantastic to see them develop their independence, teamwork and sense of responsibility in a real working environment."
A huge thank you goes to Julie and the team at Tesco Wisbech for providing such a welcoming and supportive experience for our students.
