Supporting Bereaved Children

We are proud to be recognised as a School Friend by Nelson's Journey, reflecting our commitment to supporting pupils who have experienced bereavement.

Nelson’s Journey works with schools across Norfolk to raise awareness of childhood bereavement and promote effective support within educational settings. As part of this recognition, our staff have developed their understanding of how bereavement can affect young people and how best to support them both emotionally and academically.

We recognise that bereavement can have a significant impact on a young person’s well-being, behaviour and ability to engage with learning. Research shows that around 1 in 29 children have experienced the death of a parent or sibling, meaning that many classrooms include pupils coping with loss.

At On Track Mildenhall, we are committed to providing an environment where pupils feel safe, understood and able to talk. We work closely with families and external organisations to ensure that every young person receives the care and support they need.

Reporting a Concern

If you are worried about a child’s safety or well-being:

  • Speak to a member of staff or the DSL immediately
  • Contact the school office
  • In an emergency, contact the police or your local authority children’s services

We take all concerns seriously and act promptly to ensure the safety of our pupils.
