On Friday 14 November, two students from On Track Education Westbury showcased their exceptional culinary skills at the Springboard FutureChef Local Final, held at New College Swindon. Competing against pupils from schools across Wiltshire, entrants were tasked with preparing a restaurant-standard main course for two, using a budget of just £6.50, all within the demanding environment of a professional training kitchen.
The judging panel featured Executive Chefs from the industry alongside senior chefs from the Royal Navy, bringing expert insight and high expectations to the event.
CL – Local Final Winner
We are thrilled to announce that CL won the competition with his impressive dish, “Full English Reimagined.” Inspired by his favourite breakfast, he elevated traditional components into a refined, modern plate featuring:
Mushroom tart
Sausage & black pudding bonbons
Burst cherry tomatoes
Bacon shard
Potato rösti
Poached egg
Brown sauce reduction
Judges praised his strong technical skills, bold flavour pairings and the ambitious number of elements he executed to a high standard within the time limit.
OSS – Outstanding Techniques & Flavour
OSS also delivered a remarkable performance with his dish, “Seabass à la Choron with Mushroom & Tarragon.” Judges described it as:
“A fantastic dish showing excellent techniques — it tasted top notch.”
His fish cookery, sauce work and attention to detail were all singled out for special commendation.
Representing On Track With Pride
Against tough competition, both CL and OSS demonstrated maturity, professionalism and calmness under pressure. Their creativity and commitment made them outstanding ambassadors for On Track Education Westbury.
What’s Next?
As the local final winner, CL now progresses to the Regional Final in January. As part of his prize, he will receive mentoring from an Executive Chef, who will support him in refining both a main course and dessert for the next stage of the competition.
