On Track Education Wisbech has received approval to extend its age range, enabling the school to support young people aged 11 to 19 from September 2026.
The approval follows a successful material change inspection by Ofsted and confirmation from the Department for Education that the school can now provide post-16 education for students who would benefit from continuing their learning in a specialist setting.
The expansion has been introduced to provide greater continuity for young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs who may find the transition to larger colleges challenging. By remaining within a familiar environment, students can continue to develop academically, socially and emotionally while preparing for adulthood at a pace that is right for them.
The new post-16 provision will offer a personalised curriculum tailored to each student's Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan. Alongside GCSEs and Functional Skills qualifications, students will continue to build independence, confidence and employability through careers education, life skills, work experience and preparation for their next steps.
During the inspection, Ofsted recognised the school's clear vision for the new provision, highlighting the school's safe and supportive environment, personalised approach and strong leadership. Inspectors concluded that the school is likely to meet all the relevant independent school standards for the proposed age range extension.
Headteacher Diane Woodward said:
"We are delighted that we can now continue supporting our students beyond Year 11. We know that for many young people with SEMH needs, moving into a much larger college environment can be overwhelming. Extending our provision means we can give students more time to build their confidence, strengthen their qualifications and develop the skills they need to move successfully into further education, employment or independent living.
"This is an exciting step forward for our school and, most importantly, for the young people and families we support."
The new provision will welcome its first post-16 students from September 2026, further strengthening On Track Wisbech's commitment to providing personalised education that enables every learner to thrive.
